1953, Movie, NR, 79 mins

A river boat musical which casts Haymes as a nightclub crooner from New York City whose grandfather has willed him a boat with a past. Told in flashbacks, with Haymes doubling as the granddad, is the story of an old feud over the Chattahoochee Queen. It seems this boat was won from old man Kellaway in a bet which also included his granddaughter as part of the purse. Totter, as the young filly, helps the younger Haymes and her grandpappy reach an amiable agreement. Before too long, the boat is a floating nightclub. Mildly amusing screenplay copenned by Blake Edwards. Songs include "Cruisin' Down the River" (Eily Beadell, Nell Tollerton), "There Goes That Song Again" (Sammy Cahn, Jule Styne), "Pennies From Heaven" (Johnny Burke, Arthur Johnson) "Sing You Sinners" (Sam Coslow, W. Frank Harling), "Swing Low Sweet Chariot" (traditional), and "Father Dear" (Emmet G. Coleman). leave a comment
