Handsome but painfully disjointed, this dismal THIRD sequel to THE CROW (1994), which relies on special effects to gloss over the screenplay's many deficiencies, takes place in the polluted mining town of Lake Ravasu, whose Native Americans residents see a way out of their dire financial straits in selling the mine to finance construction of a casino. That Asian, Latino and Caucasian mine workers would lose their jobs may just be a price that has to be paid. Local bikers Pestilence (Yuji Okumoto), Famine (Tito Ortiz) and War (Marcus Chong) remain loyal to their leader, Luc Crash (David Boreanaz), even though he's in prison; what they don't know is that he's on his way to becoming an immortal demon. Former pole dancer/aspiring shaman Lola Byrne (Tara Reid) springs Luc, who rechristens himself "Death" and intends to visit righteous vengeance on Native American tribal leaders for their callous disregard of interests other than their own by raising Satan himself. Meanwhile, local bad-boy Jimmy Cuervo (Edward Furlong) tries to elope with his girlfriend, Lilly (Emmanuelle Chriqui), only to run afoul of Death's gang, who kidnap and hang them both. Lola plucks out Lilly’s eyes, which she needs for her new career as a prophetess. But Jimmy returns from the dead as the avenging icon known as the Crow, who begins picking off his killers one by one. The question is whether he's a match for Death, who's made a deal with Satan himself. Director/co-writer Lance Mungia's regurgitation of devil-worshiping cliches makes a total hash of the film's anti-racist theme, and Furlong stands out — in a bad way — among a generally awful cast: His Jimmy appears to be the subject of a slacker documentary and as the Crow he resembles Helena Bonham Carter wearing Goth mascara. leave a comment --Robert Pardi
