Crossroads

Set in Paris in 1935, this film features Powell and Lamarr as a happy young couple who suddenly find themselves caught in a nightmare after they marry. Extortionists demand money from Powell, threatening to expose him as a criminal unless he meets their demands. Powell has no idea what the extortionists are talking about, but he soon finds himself on trial for robbery, with Sokoloff and Trevor both testifying against him. That testimony is destroyed by Rathbone who swears that it was another man, not Powell, who committed the crimes in question, adding that the man died in his arms some time earlier.
