By accident, the US Coast Guard blows up a suspected drug-smuggling boat, little realizing that the sister and niece of emigré Cuban criminal DeKova (Andrew Divoff) are aboard. In retaliation, DeKova sends a quartet of terrorists to obliterate the Statue of Liberty. Concurrently, Pike (Mitchell Cox), a hit man with a pesky conscience, takes the Staten Island Ferry to assassinate the young son of a financier who backed an operation that got a bunch of Pike's fellow mercenaries killed. On Ellis Island, Pike encounters Gloria (Indira Kupa), a deaf child, whose lip-reading ability enables her to uncover about DeKova's evil plot. Unwilling to ice his tiny target and determined to save Lady Liberty, little Gloria, and the other tourists, it's up to Pike to prevent DeKova's itchy finger from pressing the detonator. Give me your tired, your poor, and... I'll blow them up! Aware of the fundamental preposterousness of the storyline, the film goes into martial arts overdrive. Fortunately, Cox and his less-than-stellar co-stars are better at body language than they are at line readings. So, sit back and enjoy the smack of fists and the clatter of guns, and let's hope this over-plotted actioner doesn't inspire similar plots to blow up the Ronald Reagan Library or the Liberace Museum. leave a comment --Robert Pardi
