Ending a two-year hiatus which began after his marriage to Jeanette MacDonald, Raymond returns to the screen in this pleasantly whimsical picture which offers just what the title promises. Doctor Raymond meets up with the soon-to-be-wed Barrie and they do the continental hop. Working their way west, they encounter garden variety situations which lead to their eventual spell of love. What he doesn't know about her is that she's traveling under a false banner. When he learns the truth, he quickly takes a walk. The obligatory reunion follows. When people today exclaim that "they don't make 'em like they used to," this is the type of crowd-pleaser they're referring to. A well-crafted script from Browne's novel seems to be the key, a lesser version of Capra's IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT with less charismatic performances. leave a comment
