A successful Broadway play that makes the transition to celluloid not nearly so successfully. Even the talents of Hope and Ball can't salvage this film's implausible plot. Hope is cast as the usual one-dimensional character-this time as a theater critic who must review his wife's new play. Realising his review could ruin his marriage, he reluctantly decides to write the review, but not before booze, analysis, and the comfort of first wife, Maxwell. Arriving drunk at the opening, Hope immediately becomes the center of attention. Ball takes the expected measures, which lead to a routine, but comical wrap-up. Edith Head's costumes are above par. leave a comment
