A comic murder mystery based on a play by Ellery Queen and Lowell Brentano, the film follows three playwrights who, having just collected a $500 advance for a mystery play, gather in an apartment to write. A drunk from across the hall enters the apartment and passes out. The three writers pretend he has been murdered, and summon the men he has blackmailed.
