A physician is driven to distraction by the demands of a younger second wife. He hypnotizes a bank official and commands him to take $100,000 from the bank, while planning to rob and murder him. He breaks down from revulsion and confesses his intentions to the police. The doctor promises the police he will compel the bank official to return the money, but the official is killed and robbed while the doctor is rendered unconscious by chloroform. A unique scene in the film has an intermission during which a speaker says that crime movies move too fast to be properly solved, and announces a one-minute time-out for reflection and reconstruction. A clock is shown ticking off the seconds, while characters and clues are flashed over the swinging pendulum of the clock. However, the film still holds back the key clue until the very end. leave a comment
