Peter O'Toole gives a lively, compelling performance as an eccentric but warm-hearted Nobel Prize-winning professor. He is obsessed with the notion that he can somehow resurrect, through cloning, his dead wife, who has been lying in her grave for 30 years. A scatterbrained, nymphomaniac undergraduate, Mariel Hemingway, develops a mad crush on O'Toole, but he's oblivious to her sentiments, caring more about his dead wife than anyone living. She aids O'Toole, as does a reluctant but impressionable Vincent Spano, an assistant stolen from another department.
