This film was supposed to be the successful American debut of Dorothea Wieck, one of the many fine German performers who fled their country when Hitler came to power. However, her accent was too strong for American tastes, and she would never find the success that Marlene Dietrich did. The
story has Wieck as a nun in a Spanish cloister. A baby is left on the steps of the nunnery, and Wieck unofficially adopts and raises it. Ironically, the film featured another Hollywood newcomer, Venable, who went on to star in several quality productions before retiring in the early forties.
