1975, Movie, NR, 94 mins

A young black basketball star raised in the ghetto, the hope of his community, is mistakenly slain by a police officer. Although its script is uneven, CORNBREAD, EARL AND ME still manages to portray ghetto life in a moving way without reverting to stereotypes. Keith Wilkes (former UCLA All-American and later Golden State Warrior) plays the lead with charm and conviction, and the picture goes to great lengths to portray the sensitive situation in complex terms. Unfortunately, the courtroom scenes bog it down. leave a comment
