Thirty-eight-year-old Robert Taylor and seventeen-year-old Elizabeth Taylor are strange bedfellows as CONSPIRATOR tells the story of Maj. Michael Curragh (Robert Taylor), a British army officer in the employ of the USSR. Elizabeth Taylor is Melinda, his young, naive American wife. Michael's Soviet contacts do not like the fact that he is newly wed, but he is seriously in love with his wife and listens closely when she pleads with him to give up his spy chores. The Russkies inform Michael that, as in the Mafia, one does not resign from the spy service of the USSR. He is ordered to kill Melinda. But how does one kill one's wife?
