A convent in Italy in 1943 is the locale for this movie, which concerns the plight of Jewish children whose parents have been killed by the Nazis. Palmer and her nuns help the children escape to the safety and comfort of foster homes, but their efforts are thwarted when a Nazi colonel
and his sadistic lieutenant take over the transit camp, discover the nuns' activities, and order three of the sisters' execution. Among the cast, the kids are the scene-stealers, and it is to Syms' credit that she is able to hold her own with them on several occasions.
