Congo Maisie

1940, Movie, NR, 70 mins

This was the second of the MAISIE series with Ann Sothern as the glib-talking, fast-thinking showgirl. This time she finds herself in the interior of West Africa after stowing away on a steamer to escape paying her hotel bill. Settling at last in a rubber plantation hospital, the spitfire with a heart of gold prevents Carroll from breaking up a doctor's marriage and saves everybody from an attack by the natives. The picture has sagging sequences and depends entirely on the antics of Sothern to lift it above the swampy script which leans heavily on TORRID ZONE. leave a comment
