This film is a part of the growing trend of political action pictures coming out of Italy by film directors raised on neo-realism. Damiani, a political action pioneer, was already probing the political sore spots of a Mafia-infested social structure with his Sicilian-localed DAY OF THE OWL. Balsam is a police commissioner frustrated for years in his attempts to bring to justice a local lawbreaker who continues to rise to power in politics, society, and speculative real estate. Thwarted at every turn, he finally makes the decision to mete out his own kind of justice. Intelligently directed, this suspenseful drama gets an exciting performance from Balsam. leave a comment
