Inmate Eilers, taking the blame for her boy friend so he can finish law school, falls in love with the prison psychologist who befriends her and works to free her. (Their trysting is confined to the prison furnace room.) In the meantime she must put up with abuse from the obligatory tough matron who believes in old-school methods of rehabilitation. There is a prison break where the girls do their level best to kill each other off, but the movie suffers from a glut of plots. Patrick as the hardboiled prison hen is funny, not frightening. Many scenes in CAGED (1950) were inspired by this film. leave a comment
