Commando

During the 1961 Algerian War, Foreign Legion captain Granger is ordered to lead a small force into the desert to capture rebel leader Casaravilla. The mission succeeds, but the helicopter assigned to pick up the men is shot down, and the men must make their way overland through fierce opposition. They take heavy losses but finally reach their own forces. Then they learn that the political situation has changed and that Casaravilla is now an important figure who will help negotiate the French withdrawal. Granger is furious and thinks to kill his prisoner, but he does not, remembering instead the vain sacrifice his men have made. Not bad as an action film--and with a...
