Just because it was written and directed by a woman doesn't mean the title isn't exactly the vulgar double entendre you think. In fact, all that separates this oversexed sex-and-drugs teen comedy from the horny hijinks of PORKY'S or AMERICAN PIE is that it's told entirely from the girl's side of the bed. That, and the sad fact that it isn't nearly as good. Unlike the desperate teen males of moviedom, "losin' it" isn't an issue for privileged Manhattan high school senior Stream Hodsell (Bonnie Root); the film opens as she's being relieved of that burden by less-than-attentive boyfriend Chad (James Roday). Enjoyin' it is a different matter. Despite Chad's assurances that Stream must be having orgasms because he is, she worries that she's not capable of enjoying sex as much as The Hite Report and her best friends (Gaby Hoffman and Tricia Vessy) say she should. But after she accidentally brings herself to climax (suffice to say the film tries to do for Jacuzzi jets what AMERICAN PIE did for apple pastry), Stream begins wondering if maybe actually liking the guy is a factor. Enter grungy Henry Lishitz (Ryan Reynolds), a slow-hand who's got what it takes to get Stream flowing. Originally branded with an NC-17 rating (only the language is explicit, but apparently the MPAA gets hotter under the collar over raunchy-talking girls than boys), the film's full of ugly truths that are never too early for teen girls to learn about the male of the species. But writer-director Colette Burson has a few things to learn about filmmaking: When to yell "cut" is one of them. Nevertheless, props to the likable and apparently fearless Root, who's asked to embarrass herself so many times during the movie that you feel like crying on her behalf. leave a comment --Ken Fox
