Fast-moving Burns and Allen farce offers rapid-fire jokes and a host of vaudeville acts ranging from trained seals to acrobats to smart dogs. Gracie is the wealthy daughter of Barbier. He temporarily turns over his money to Gracie to discourage a gigolo who has eyes for his other daughter, Furness. Allen turns the Park Avenue mansion into a boarding house (at no charge) for various down-at-the-heels show business types. As Burns serves straight lines on a silver platter, Allen delivers the punches with her customary technique, and the picture ends with a show at the mansion that gives everyone a chance to do their thing. There is hardly any time for plot with specialty acts like Jack Powell, Cal Norris and Monkey, The Buccaneers, Moro and Yaconelli, Pascale Perry and Partner, The Six Candreva Brothers, Seymour and Corncob, Jester and Mole, Jack Cavanaugh and Partner, Six Olympics and Big Boy Williams (not Guinn "Big Boy" Williams, the character actor). A couple of forgettable tunes including "Vamp Of The Pampas" and "Lazy Moon." Furness went on to a TV career and became a consumer advocate. leave a comment
