The Comeback Trail

This incoherent, largely improvised comedy stars Chuck McCann and Robert Staats as a pair of shady film producers who come up with a scheme to hire a washed-up star and have him die on the set, allowing them to collect lots of insurance money. They hire Buster Crabbe (onetime "Tarzan"), but he turns out to be in much better health than anticipated, so the pair attempt to murder him. Some of THE COMEBACK TRAIL works quite well, but much of the film is simply painful to watch. A number of celebrities turn up in cameos as stars of the producers' previous efforts.
