Having left his family years earlier because of drinking and wild living, a much calmer Cochran returns to his wife Sheridan and their Arkansas farm. Anxious to prove himself not only to Sheridan but to his mute daughter and never-seen baby boy as well, Cochran commits himself to putting
the delapidated farm in order. In an emotional climax Cochran saves his daughter from an old mine pit after hearing her screams, the first sounds she has made in years. This genuinely appealing film depicts the simple, yet thoughtful lives of small farm-belt families.
