This remake of the 1949
film noir gem D.O.A. tells the story of accountant Frank Bigelow (Tryon), who gets a nasty trick played on him: slow-acting luminous poison is slipped into his drink. It's fatal, there's no antidote, and, what's worse, Bigelow doesn't know who has killed him or
why. He scurries around Sydney, Australia, tracing a number of leads in an attempt to solve his own murder before he actually dies. While the original had a gritty, urban atmosphere, this color-by-numbers remake has no real style at all. However, a more stylish remake, again titled D.O.A. and
starring Dennis Quaid, was released in 1988.
