Despite the fine performances by the two leads, this film never quite delivers the satirical punch it thinks it does. Kaye is a Jewish refugee stuck in Paris shortly before the Nazis arrive. He manages to get hold of a car and takes along one passenger, an anti-Semitic Polish colonel played by Jurgens. Putting his prejudice on hold to save his skin, Jurgens has his driver stop and pick up girl friend Maurey.
