Eric Red, the man behind the screenplays for two of the smarter, more disturbing thrillers of the eighties, Near Dark and The Hitcher, made his directorial debut with this grim variation on O. Henry's storyf "The Ransom of Red Chief." Roy Scheider and Adam Baldwin star as two hired guns who kidnap a young boy (Harley Cross) who witnessed a mob hit.
