The Climax

Tognazzi is a concert violinist who maintains a family and two mistresses, phoning them all constantly to assure them of their place in his heart. While waiting for the birth of a baby by his newest mistress (Sandrelli), he goes to a church and confesses his arrangement. The priest recommends a divorce, but Tognazzi is unwilling to do that because all his women need him. Finally, it all proves too much for him, and he suffers a fatal heart attack while trying to phone his wife. From heaven, he watches his funeral and wonders if his wife knew his secret.
