A slow film based on a 1909 play of the same name. Story revolves around a young opera star, Crawford, who is taken under the wing of the singing maestro (Hersholt), who taught her mother. Crawford falls in love with the son of the maestro. A handsome doctor falls in love with the girl,
complicating matters. Later the girl goes in for an operation to improve her voice. The young doctor is the surgeon's assistant. He spoils the operation and the girl is left voiceless. The girl decides to marry the doctor to rid the maestro of his responsibility, but just before the wedding she
recovers her voice and runs off with the maestro's son.
