Clerks: Review

Kevin Smith's debut -- a sourly amusing farce about suburban slackers -- is a lowball bid on the minimum production values needed to put across an independent first feature. Dante (Brian O'Halloran), the proprietor of a convenience store in Asbury Park, NJ, and his best friend Randal (Jeff Anderson), who mans the video store next door, spent their working hours in earnest debate over monumentally trivial issues, though a narrative of sorts does eventually unfold in a series of arch blackouts.
