Sussenguth is the owner of a factory forced, by financial difficulties, to close down. The unemployed workers are shown in a series of vignettes as they are reunited with old loves, find new loves, and commit suicide. Though unrelated to the plant closing, the suicide convinces
Sussenguth to reopen his factory. This is a competent, if somewhat predictable, drama directed by actor Kortner, famous for his role in G.W. Pabst's PANDORA'S BOX. He proves here that he can handle actors well, although his camerawork leaves something to be desired. Released in Germany in 1955.
