AMERICAN GRAFFITI goes redneck. An early and sometimes funny effort by director Demme but the hilarity of the subplots (especially the bigamous Napier) swallows the main storyline. LeMat stars as a decent fellow intent on seeing that the CB airwaves are kept open for emergencies, putting
him at odds with an assortment of loony CBers who don't want anybody stopping their fun. LeMat again shows himself to be the closest thing there is to a modern-day Jimmy Stewart, yet he's never snagged that one part that will move him into the star category. Not as good as the sum of its parts,
but worth a nod unless redneck humor makes you crazy.
