Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger Iv: Review
Puerile, gross and pandering to the lowest impulses of teenage boys, this fourth TOXIC AVENGER picture ups the ante on all the elements fans love. Blood gushes, limbs are ripped off and entrails squish; nuns, pregnant women and the handicapped are mocked and abused. The sub-
Mad Magazine
style irreverence that characterizes Troma movies spawns gags about abortion clinics, bodily functions, Nazis, cannibalism, AIDS and rednecks dragging a black man to death behind their pick-up truck granted, the man's disembodied head lives to crack wise and prosper, but that doesn't make the gag funny. As the film opens, the Tromaville School for the Very Special is under attack by the "Diaper Mafia," gun-toting sociopaths dressed in, yes, diapers. Tromaville's resident defender, the Toxic Avenger a deformed superhero with the heart of a boy scout intervenes, accompanied by his morbidly obese sidekick, Lardass (Joe Fleishaker). Despite Toxie's heroic efforts, the school is blown up and the explosion somehow ruptures the time-space continuum, flinging 'Toxie' into a bizarro universe where his beloved hometown is a cesspool called 'Amortville,' ruled with an iron fist by his own evil doppleganger, the Noxious Offender 'Noxie,' for short. Noxie in turn finds himself in Tromaville and starts tearing up the joint, slaughtering innocent citizens, abetting neo-Nazi Sgt. Kazinski (Dan Snow) and terrorizing Toxie's blind, pregnant and spectacularly stupid wife, Sarah (Heidi Sjursen). Once Toxie figures out the situation, he teams up with the aforementioned head (Barry Brisco) and two mentally challenged teenagers, Sweetie Honey (Lisa Terezakis) and self-styled "Retarded Rebel" Tito (Michael Budinger), to find a way home. Noxie, meanwhile, is making mincemeat of Tromaville's second-string superheroes: Sgt. Kabukiman (Paul Kyrmse), the Mad Cow-Boy (Anthony Cantanese), rapping onanist Master-Bator (Jarred Alterman) and a silver-skinned skank called The Vibrator (Lauren Heather McMahon). Porn mogul Al Goldstein, the late Hank the Angry Dwarf (as God), Motorhead's Lemmy, and pin-up Julie Strain and her husband,

creator Kevin Eastman all make witless cameo appearances. On the plus side astonishingly enough, there is one Randy Diaz and Jason Gonzales contribute some well-honed schtick going as a pair of smarmy, Gen-X news anchors; Barry Brisco is actually funny as Pompey; and a canny parody of CITIZEN KANE's "News on the March" newsreel is occasioned by the death of Tromaville's pious Mayor Goldberg (Ron Jeremy), who lived in a stately pleasure dome called Tromadu.
