A well-paced western that suffers from the cliches of the genre. It focuses on the happenings in a frontier fort the night before it is razed by Indians. Taylor plays the title role, a wandering gunfighter who meanders into the fort on the fateful day. He meets Mills, the blockheaded
English commandant of the fort, Borgnine, the tough sergeant, Whitmore, the gruff scout, and Paluzzi, the loved one he's been parted from for so long. This has a stock list of characters, but it is pulled off well with fine performances.
