This is the story of a young lieutenant in turn-of-the-century Vienna who loves an innocent young singer, Schneider. It ends in tragedy when he is killed in a duel over a married woman. A remake of a Max Ophuls film, LIEBELEI, which starred Romy's mother, Magda Schneider, this movie is in the large category of remakes that fall far short of the original.
