The film involves the fate of 11 people selected by the US government to participate in a below-ground experiment to determine how they will fare when they are told that the rest of the human race has been destroyed by a nuclear holocaust. This strange cross-section of humanity includes a hard-drinking businessman, Cooper; a member of Congress, Muldaur; a novelist, Cord; a black athlete, Kilpatrick; and the crazed government official who thought the whole thing up, Dillman. This might have been a good enough premise on its own (it isn't, however); but to spice things up, an electrical vent is accidentally left open, allowing thousands of vampire bats to get into the shelter. The rest of the film is devoted to fighting off the bats (which look particularly realistic) and to attempting to escape from the shelter. Thanks to Kilpatrick's heroic efforts, those not killed escape from this batty film. leave a comment
