A warm and often humorous story of a romance between a burly Air Corps captain and a fragile Asian beauty. The story takes place in China in 1943, at a time in WW II when the Japanese had cut off all US supply lines and American airmen were left with the duty of getting the supplies through. Mature plays the Air Corps captain, a lonely man who has forsaken all but the bottle. In one of his big drunken states, he unknowingly purchases a Chinese girl as a housekeeper. She ends up carrying his child, winning his love, and marrying him, in that order. Both are killed in an air attack, but the child survives to spend the next thirteen years in Chinese orphanages before being brought to America and her father's friends. leave a comment
