This film is a depressing look at Western society as seen through one young man's eyes. The story centers on the life of Baseleon, from his early manhood to an early grave. Among his experiences are political disillusionment, a love affair that ends in a bad marriage, and a frustrated
suicide attempt. Baseleon emerges from psychiatric treatment as a listless victim of an oppressive society. Ultimately, war takes him from his wife and child, and he winds up in a soldier's grave--a pointless end to the pointless life of a pointless character in a pointless film.
