An intelligent treatment of two prostitutes who earn their living by bedding with American GI's in Italy during WW II. The war's end brings about unemployment, so the women return to their homeland to spend their profits. Supposedly in the good hands of the local priest, the money is used to set up a home for illegitimate war babies. Great Nino Rota score.
