A Child Is Waiting: Review
John Cassavetes
became known for his unique blend of documentation and improvisation, and this early, emotionally draining film is no exception.
Burt Lancaster
plays the objective director of an institution for the mentally retarded;
Judy Garland
is excellent as a teacher whose overattentiveness to one of her charges has fostered in him excessive dependence upon her. A wonderfully provocative and sympathetic film.
