A charming comedy about an upper-crust family about to be dashed on the rocks of poverty because of Burke's featherbrained financial decision. Pallette is Burke's financier husband who sees the end of his empire imminent unless thay can raise some cash. Pallette's rich uncle is about to die, and they hope to get some money from him, but he leaves his entire fortune to an actress he's never met (Munson) because when he was a boy, she once delighted him by her performance as Little Eva in a version of Uncle Tom's Cabin. It's Christmas time, and their daughter brings home a charity case--Schildkraut--to spend the holidays. Obviously drawn from the likes of John Barrymore, Schildkraut is an amiable stage star who has fallen from favor. This low station doesn't daunt his ham-on-rye attitudes, however, and he joins the household, thus making it almost, but not quite, as nuts as the family in YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU. Schildkraut locates the missing Munson, and they take her in, but don't tell her about the inheritance. She is happy to be part of the family, and they do their best to convince her that she's an actual blood relative. On Christmas, Schildkraut gets so drunk that he spills the beans to Munson (by this time an attraction has formed between them), but she is a big girl, takes the news with aplomb, and agrees to divvy up the $5 million in question with everyone.
