Charlie Chan At The Race Track

1936, Movie, NR, 70 mins

Chan (Oland) foils Santa Anita track gangsters after exposing them as murderers and swindlers when they switch horses in an attempt to fix a race. Much of the action takes place on board a steamship from Honolulu (Chan's stomping grounds) to Los Angeles after the owner of a prize horse, who is also Chan's friend, is found slain and the epigrammatic sleuth goes into action. Luke, as his amateur Sherlock son, provides good situation laughs and the dialog sparkles throughout. Smooth scripting and taut direction keep this picture on the right track. leave a comment
