Charlie Chan (Toler) and his daughter (Chan) try to solve a series of murders for which a phony spiritualist is the prime suspect. Chan becomes involved in the case via his loyal chauffeur (Moreland), who takes a job as a butler in the spiritualist's creepy mansion (the same mansion seen in Bela Lugosi's THE INVISIBLE GHOST).
