This comedy-mystery features a brief appearance by Peter Ustinov as Charlie Chan, with the sleuth's grandson, Lee Chan, Jr. (Hatch), a half-Jewish, half-Chinese detective, taking up most of the film as he bumbles through Chinatown, clumsily destroying everything in his path. The host of murders that greet him are on the cute side, and the dialog is inane. A veritable truckload of guest stars (Dickinson, Keith, McDowell, Roberts, etc.) also contributes. Clive Donner's mindless direction and stereotypical portrayal of the Chinese justify the picket lines that followed this film's release. leave a comment
