On Stage: Another Idol Pays Her Rent, and More

American Idol Season 1 finalist Tamyra Gray will join the cast of Broadway's Rent on May 29. During her run, she'll share the stage with original players Adam Pascal and Anthony Rapp, who, despite middle age, return to their humble roots July 30.... Nathan Lane and Luke Duke himself, Tom Wopat, have been invited to appear in a workshop of Catch Me If You Can, a musicalization of the Steven Spielberg film. The same team that turned Hairspray into a Broadway blockbuster hope to cast Lane in the Tom Hanks role and Wopat as the juvenile con's dad. No word on who will fill Leonardo DiCaprio's disguises.... Weeds scribe Rinne Groff and others are turning Saved! into an off-Broadway musical to premiere next spring. —Reporting by Raven Snook read more

Cutting remarks: Zorro's Williams

Question: I was a fan of Lost in Space, but was an even bigger fan of Zorro, who was played by LiS's Guy Williams. One thing I always wondered, though. Since he had a mask on, was that really him with the sword?

Answer: That it was, Jeff. Matter of fact, the only reason Williams, whose acting résumé was pretty much nonexistent up to that point, got the role was that he was mighty handy with a blade. It seems Williams, born Armando Catalano in New York City, was the only one to audition who could actually fence. His father, a skilled fencer in his native Italy, taught his son to handle a sword, but neither of them dreamed how valuable a skill it would prove to be after Williams became a contract player at Universal in the early '50s.

It's been a while since we've...

It's been a while since we've offered up a fresh edition of the Shanelle Workman Romance Report, so here goes: "I'm single and very happy," the bubbly B&B starlet told TVGuide.com at her recent birthday party. As you first read here, she's spent time with such eligible Hollywood bachelors as John Stamos and American Idol fan-fave Constantine Maroulis in the past year. Ms. Workman didn't care to elaborate on what stalled her romance with Mr. Jake in Progress. And Constantine's just a good pal now. In fact, he was expected at Shanelle's soiree at the famed Friars of Beverly Hills, where the guests were mostly soap luminaries like the studly Michael Lowry (ex-Les, As the World Turns), Soap Star judge Michael Bruno and The Young and the Restless boys Mich read more

Christopher Walken: Self-Professed Oddball

Christopher Walken is the first to admit that, well, he's an odd bird. "Sure, I'm a little weird," he confesses to TV Guide Online. "But we're all a little weird." Of course, the 59-year-old Oscar winner's choice of film roles — from a sadistic Italian in 1991's Comfort of Strangers to a menacing angel in 1995's The Prophecy — has only upped his strangeness quotient. Although Walken came back down to earth to play Leonardo DiCaprio's endearingly mischievous old man in Steven Spielberg's Catch Me If You Can, the onetime lion tamer's head remained in the clouds at the film's recent press junket. Don't believe us? Well, here are four reasons Walken's kooky rep makes total sense. (Warning: This story contains a Catch spoiler!) 1. Walken had no clue that Frank Abagnale Sr. — the real-life character he plays in Catch — actually passed away more than 30 years ago. In fact, Abagn read more

Leo Catches Hooters Alum

Want proof that up-and-coming starlet Amy Adams, who currently can be seen playing Leonardo DiCaprio's Southern sweetie in Catch Me If You Can, has indeed arrived? The media is scouring her closet for skeletons! Luckily, the biggest scandal the press has been able to dredge up was Adams's brief stint as a waitress at busty restaurant chain Hooters. But as the Colorado native laments to TV Guide Online, the only thing controversial about that gig was that she managed to land it in the first place! "We can all get the irony of me working at Hooters," laughs the actress, glancing down on her modest bosom. "All of the girls there were [much more]... enhanced. "I was never really good at it," she adds of the job, which she scored shortly after graduating high school. "I could never really manipulate the tips out of the customers, and I wasn't good at flirting." Adams, whose credits include The read more
