Castle Keep

1969, Movie, R, 108 mins

It's 1944. Lancaster, a tired, one-eyed major, leads his weary eight-man squad to a castle in the Ardennes Forest, where they plan to enjoy some R and R. Jean-Pierre Aumont, the nobleman who owns Castle Keep, is married to his niece, Heeren. Because Aumont wants a son but is impotent, he prevails on Lancaster to be a surrogate sire. Plenty of humor abounds as Falk beds Vukotic, the wife of an absent baker. The dialog is very salty, but the action spotty. It's only when the Germans attack the castle and the squad reacts heroically that CASTLE KEEP even begins to look like a war movie. leave a comment
