A group of circus performers travels to the castle of the sinister Count Drago (Christopher Lee) whose hobby is mummifying animals with a drug he has developed. Of course, his experiments are eventually extended to include human beings to "preserve their beauty." Many scenes display the circus performers' various talents, and eventually a dwarf emerges as the story's hero. Donald Sutherland makes his first cinematic appearance in a triple role as a soldier, and old man and (in drag) as a witch. There is some confusion over who actually directed what, but the closing scenes are reputed to have been directed by Michael Reeves.
