CAST A GIANT SHADOW unfortunately ruins the good idea of a biopic about Colonel David "Mickey" Marcus, an American WWII hero and military adviser to Franklin Roosevelt recruited by the Israeli government to organize Israel's army into a military force that could withstand Arab attacks after the British pulled out of the region in 1948. He's played by rugged, iron-jawed, teeth-gritting Kirk Douglas, who leaves domesticated bliss with Angie Dickenson, the last word in monogamy, to join bigtime freedom fighter Senta Berger for a big time! Guest stars like Yul Brynner, John Wayne, and Frank Sinatra jump out to relieve the tedium, but big names are the last thing this story needs. This overblown dinosaur was coproduced by John Wayne's Batjac Productions, and it served him right; CAST A GIANT SHADOW made little impact at the box office. leave a comment
