CASINO ROYALE
starstarstarstar
This 21st entry in the "official" Bond series is a reboot designed to strip away layers of mythology and mannerism left by five stars and dozens of writers and directors. Thoroughly overhauling a 40-year-old movie franchise built around a dyed-in-the-wool cold warrior is no small task — it's a much bigger job than swapping out one actor for another. But controversial new Bond Daniel Craig turns out to have been the right choice, and the big, loud movie around him is all the better for it. Read the complete review for Casino Royale

At the Movies: Michael Apted to Direct Third Narnia

Per the Hollywood Reporter, Michael Apted is set to claim the reins from Andrew Adamson and direct The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, the third film in the seven-pic series. Among the returning cast members are (spoiler alert?) Ben Barnes, Georgie Henley and Skandar Keynes.... Marc Forster (Monster's Ball) will helm and cowrite with Paul Haggis the 22nd James Bond film.... Ben Stiller will produce/perhaps star in the comedy In Deep, in which a man fighting a parking ticket gets caught up in a nightmarish chain of events.... Per Variety, a September release is set for National Lampoon's Homo Erectus, a caveman comedy (is there any other kind these days, really?) starring the likes of Ali Larter, David Carradine and Gary Busey.... Frank Miller will adapt Raymond Chandler's Trouble Is My Business as a starring vehicle for Clive Owen. read more

Bond... James Bond

Send your movie questions to FlickChickSee Maitland McDonagh and Ken Fox review this weeks new flicks in Movie TalkThis DVD Tuesday is Casino Royale which features the sixth official James Bond suave Pierce Brosnans refreshingly rough-edged replacement Though Im often perceived as contrarian Im 100 percent on board with the opinion that Daniel Craig is the best James Bond since Sean Connery retired his license to kill all those years ago I dont think Casino Royale is the best Bond film ever I find Eva Green a thoroughly forgettable presence albeit a relief from the prefabricated anonymous likes of Denise Richards Teri Hatcher and Tanya Roberts and I could have done without having to sit through two large-scale action sequences before the start of the story proper Though to be fair the parkour sequence is pretty spectacular I just wish it hadnt been stuck at the beginning as some kind of sop to people who cant imagine a James Bond movie without a mess of read more

Short Cuts: Casino Royale, Dueling Yule Logs and More!

Anteing up a whopping $20 million, USA Network outbid FX, Spike and TNT to snag cable rights to Casino Royale, to debut on the channel in June 2009.... This Christmas morning, in addition to New York's WPIX-TV's cracklin' yule-log tradition, INHD will offer a 24-hour version of its own, in all its hi-def glory.... In light of downright sad ratings for programming originals and even brand-new shows (including Tatum O'Neal's Wicked Wicked Games), MyNetworkTV is considering abandoning its "all telenovelas, all the time" concept. read more
