A destructive film that demystifies the legend of famed bedroom performer Casanova with every frame. Inspired by Fellini's reading of "The History of My Life," Casanova's biography, this film takes place in bedrooms from his native Venice to Paris, Germany, London, Austria, and Rome. Filmed in English, a language foreign to Fellini, Casanova is an exercise in detachment--both of the character from his surroundings and of the director from the audience. Sutherland is exceptional considering the confines of the script, helped along by Nino Rota's ever-present score. The outstanding costumes and art direction were awarded British Film Academy Awards. The American Academy honored the costumes with a statuette and the screenplay with a nomination. leave a comment
