Sparkling light comedy about a shy English teacher (Cooper) who is about to marry Louise when he learns that he is to be a father. Seems he was married briefly to Wright and she is now about to deliver a child. Cooper visits the maternity hospital and Wright tells him that she will put the baby up for adoption as soon as it is born. The child is a gorgeous girl and Cooper can't bear the thought of anyone else rearing his daughter so he kidnaps the infant. Now the fun begins as Cooper attempts to raise his child behind the closed doors of his hotel room. With the help of chambermaid Treen and bellhop Parnell, they turn the hotel room into a nursery. Soon enough, Cooper realizes he can't be mom and dad to the little tyke and he seriously considers marrying Treen so his child can have a mother. Eventually, both wife-to-be and wife-that-was descend upon Cooper and, once he's gone through the rigors of hell, he makes the decision to stick with Wright, mother of his child and the woman he loved all along. Cooper was never much of a comedian, but the sight of the heroic actor in a room full of diapers is a wonderfully comic moment. The film wasn't a large success, even with Cooper's box office draw. It did manage three Oscar nominations, however, for Art Direction, Set Decoration, and Sound. leave a comment
