Brian De Palma's first big hit remains his best horror effort to date. Sissy Spacek (in a stunning performance) stars as a troubled, sexually repressed high schooler who slowly realizes that she possesses telekinetic powers. Plagued with problems in school and at home (her mother, played by Piper Laurie, is a religious nut who makes her daughter pray in a closet), she's driven over the edge when cruel classmates make her the target of an elaborate practical joke, and all hell literally breaks loose. As American Idol's "elite eight" await their fate, TV Guide calls a time-out to ask — and get answers to — some of the more-popular-than-ever contest's burning questions. Such as: 1. Is it us, or are Paula and Randy trying to be tougher this season?Seems so. "People aren't stupid," says American Idol executive producer Nigel Lythgoe, explaining that Simon's brand of brutal honesty has rubbed off on both of his less-acidic sidekicks. "Paula and Randy are not just going to sit there and say, 'Oh, you're wonderful' when they know some of the singers aren't." Tamara, starring music-video-dancer-turned-actress Jenna Dewan and from the creator of Final Destination, is a new horror film now playing at a theater near you. Oh, and did we mention that revenge smells nice and flowery, too? Actually, that's just the fragrance (not Curious, you can pretty much bet) worn by Justin Timberlake's post-Britney girlfriend as she sits down for a one-on-one with TVGuide.com.
