This uneven comedy with a moral stars George Segal as Walter Whitney, a Jewish businessman who loses his job, connections, and wife (Susan St. James) after it is revealed that he has an illegitimate son as a result of a fling he had nearly two decades ago with a black woman. Cut off from
his affluent lifestyle, Walter is forced do blue-collar work in a depressed economy and hence to appreciate some of the obstacles his half-black son (Denzel Washington) faces.
